Our New Home in the Scottish Highlands
What a journey it's been so far and yet we've only begun!
2 years ago we decided it was time to leave our hectic lives behind in Nottingham and move to a peaceful new home in the countryside and start our own business. Somewhere we could be more in tune with nature, live more sustainably in a small community, and share our location with people taking a break from their own busy lives. You might know the scenario: sitting on the sofa one evening watching Escape to the Country and thinking hey, why don't we do that?! Neil was working as a truck mechanic at the time and I was working for the NHS in adult mental health so a big lifestyle change was in order! We figured that if we didn't make that leap soon, we never would, so we gathered up all our courage and started looking at properties.
Now, the Scottish highlands is around 500 miles from where we lived at the time, so property searching wasn't just a "let's jump in the car and have a quick look on the weekend" type of affair. It's fair to say that the search took up most of our waking hours, both in researching, planning and driving. Property websites became a new obsession. Finding our perfect location back in May of this year was making our move here has been the most exciting thing to happen and now here we finally are in a wee coastal crofter's cottage in Latheronwheel.
Some people encouraged us, some envied us and some just thought we had lost our minds. But if you have a dream you just need to chase that dream - wherever it takes you!
